Highampton Community Primary School

Overview

Highampton Community Primary School is a small, rural academy where pupils are described as "happy and safe" and who "enjoy learning." The report highlights a positive school culture where pupils "treat each other with kindness" and parents are "overwhelmingly positive," with every respondent recommending the school.

Strengths

• The curriculum is "suitable for pupils who are taught in mixed aged classes," with older pupils modelling "good habits for listening."
• Reading is a "top priority," with children beginning to learn from their "first day in Reception" using books that "carefully match the sounds they know."
• Assessment is "used well to check what pupils know and remember," ensuring swift support for those falling behind.
• The school supports pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) "well," adapting learning "where necessary."
• Pupils demonstrate "fundamental British values," showing a "clear understanding of equality and respect."

Areas to improve

• In a "small number of subjects," the school has not considered how Year 1 curriculum builds on early years learning, which "slows pupils’ learning."
• Efforts to improve pupils’ understanding of lives different from their own are "not embedded," resulting in weaker knowledge of diversity beyond the local community.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
