Holy Child Primary School

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning teachers did not cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure... of the quality of education” and assigns “No performance level available” for all key areas. The school is designated a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• Governors are “well informed” and have “demonstrated effectively their challenge function and child-centred approach.”
• A “distributed leadership” structure facilitates a “collaborative and collegial approach” to improvement work.
• Staff use assessment data to “monitor the progress of the children” and set targets.
• Year 6 pupils spoke highly of “learning experiences” and their role in an “active school council.”
• Questionnaire responses described an “inclusive and pastoral school community.”

Areas to improve

• The school must review its relationships and sexuality education policy to align with Department of Education guidance.
• The “poor, damp condition of some of the classrooms” is not conducive to learning.
• There is “no disability access in the school.”

Safeguarding

The report states that “satisfactory arrangements for safeguarding children reflect broadly the guidance,” and children feel safe, though the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements.”
