Holy Child Primary School

Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was conducted during industrial action, with teachers refusing to cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) could not evaluate classroom teaching or learning quality, stating it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided.” The report relies on available documentation and limited pupil feedback rather than direct observation of lessons.

Strengths

• There is “clear evidence of progress in taking forward the key priorities identified in the school development plan to sustain improvement.”
• The school maintains a “well-established culture of self-evaluation” and a “collegial approach to school improvement.”
• Performance data is used appropriately to “improve further the learning experiences and intervention programmes provided for the children in numeracy.”
• Children are provided with “good opportunities... to learn about community relations, equality, diversity and reconciliation” through a comprehensive Shared Education programme.

Areas to improve

• The school has identified the need to “monitor and evaluate more effectively the extent of the children’s understanding” of the Shared Education programme.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “continue to reflect the guidance issued by the relevant Departments,” and a group of year six children reported that they “feel safe and secure and know who to go to if they have any concerns.”
