Check the area around this school
57th of 71 primary schools in Leicester we can score, 82 in total — the rest without enough published data. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Its results hold up when the comparison narrows to schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds — 2.2/10 against 1,366 of them, against 1.9/10 nationally. So this is not simply a reflection of who attends. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.
How this is worked out
| Measure | Percentile | Weight | Adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expected standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 45.0 · 13 | 40% | 0.51 |
| Ofsted | 52 | 35% | 1.82 |
| Higher standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 3.0 · 29 | 25% | 0.73 |
Each measure is read as a position among comparable schools, so a school in the middle of the country scores 5. Full method.

How it's doing
In 2024/25, 45.0% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths, compared to the national median of 64%. The higher standard was reached by 3.0% of pupils, against a national median of 7%. Its results are much the same when the comparison narrows to schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds, so the gap is not explained by intake (2.2 out of 10 against similar schools, 1.9 out of 10 against all schools). Ofsted rated the school Good in May 2023.

What Ofsted said about Holy Cross Catholic School, a Voluntary Academy
Overview
Holy Cross Catholic School is a happy and safe environment where pupils are proud and feel supported by adults. Leaders have worked with determination to improve the school, resulting in a broad, ambitious curriculum and effective behaviour management. While progress has improved considerably, outcomes for pupils at all key stages remain below expected standards.
Strengths
- Pupils are "happy and safe" and appreciate the support they receive, with one noting: "Everyone here cares for you."
- The curriculum is "broad and ambitious," with knowledge organised logically so that pupils’ understanding builds over time.
- Staff meet the needs of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities "exceptionally well."
- Phonics is taught well, with children learning to read from Reception and receiving targeted support if they struggle.
- Leaders promote a love of reading, ensuring pupils read from a "wide range of texts and genres" and perform poetry for parents.
Areas to improve
- Staff do not routinely check that pupils understand what they have read, meaning "comprehension and inference skills do not develop as quickly as they could."
- Outcomes for pupils at all key stages are "still not high enough," with a significant number not working at the standards expected for their age.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with staff trained to recognise risks and pass concerns on "without fail" to ensure prompt support for families.
