Holy Name RC School

Overview

Holy Name Primary School is described as a "caring, nurturing organisation" that prioritises the well-being of pupils and staff. Pupils enjoy learning, demonstrate pride in their school, and make "good progress overall," supported by a bespoke curriculum that emphasises bilingualism and local values.

Strengths

• Pupils exhibit strong "behaviour and attitudes to learning," listening carefully and applying themselves well.
• Staff model "positive, calm and friendly approaches," promoting respect and creating "interesting, authentic learning experiences."
• The school successfully promotes bilingualism, with staff and pupils conversing in Welsh with ease, a "notable feature" of the school.
• Leadership is "measured" and "compassionate," with governors who are supportive and sufficiently challenge strategic plans.
• There is a "good" partnership with parents, who value the support provided, including adult Welsh lessons.

Areas to improve

• Develop opportunities for pupils to transfer numeracy skills across the curriculum and apply them to "problem-solving activities in real-life contexts."
• Provide more opportunities for pupils to develop "writing at length across the curriculum."
• Reduce instances where teachers "over-direct learning," which can inhibit pupils’ growth in independence.

Safeguarding

The report states that the school places a "high priority on the well-being of its pupils and staff" and that relationships with outside agencies are effective in providing the best support for pupils.
