Horsham Nursery School

Overview

Horsham Nursery School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection. The setting is described as a “hive of happy, purposeful activity” where children are “inspired and engaged” by a wide range of experiences. Leaders and staff are “passionate about including and supporting each child” to provide the best possible start.

Strengths

• Children develop “nurturing relationships with adults who know them well” and feel “safe and secure.”
• The curriculum is “ambitious and well-structured,” with a rich environment that promotes curiosity through play and exploration.
• Communication and language development is “at the heart of the provision,” with new vocabulary carefully introduced around children’s interests.
• Staff work closely with parents and agencies to quickly identify and support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
• Staff workload and well-being are considered, with staff feeling “fully involved, listened to and valued.”

Areas to improve

• Ensure child-initiated activities are consistently adapted to focus on children’s individual needs so they secure important knowledge and skills.
• Ensure all staff apply the school’s agreed approaches to behaviour consistently to help children learn important learning behaviours.
