Hujjat Primary School

Overview

Leaders have created a “warm and nurturing environment” where pupils feel safe and value their positive relationships with staff. The school is described as feeling “more like a family than a school,” with an ambitious curriculum that prepares pupils well for future learning.

Strengths

• Pupils demonstrate “positive attitudes to learning” and are “enthusiastic in their lessons.”
• The curriculum is “well sequenced,” helping pupils embed important ideas and transition logically between year groups.
• Staff deliver the phonics programme effectively, ensuring pupils learn to read with “increasing accuracy, confidence and fluency.”
• Leaders have developed “well-established approaches” to support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
• Pupils are taught about healthy relationships and how to stay safe, including online, and feel confident sharing concerns with adults.

Areas to improve

• Teachers must check pupils’ understanding more consistently to identify and correct misconceptions, preventing gaps in learning.
• Trustees should ensure they hold leaders to account for agreed actions, as they are “sometimes not as rigorous in following up” on initial challenges.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with staff receiving appropriate training and making suitable contact with external agencies, although there has been some inconsistency in how records are maintained over time.
