Inscape House School

Overview

Inscape House School continues to be a good school, providing a supportive environment where pupils build strong relationships with staff. Leaders are committed to improving life chances, ensuring pupils achieve well through a broad curriculum and tailored support for special educational needs.

Strengths

• Pupils feel "safe and happy" due to strong, supportive relationships with staff and effective behaviour management.
• The curriculum is "broad and balanced," with knowledge building logically in most subjects to help pupils learn securely.
• Staff are "particularly skilled in supporting pupils and students with autism," providing tailored work that meets individual needs.
• The reading curriculum is "well organised," promoting a love of reading and offering regular phonics catch-up opportunities.
• Pupils benefit from extensive extra-curricular activities, including clubs and visits, which aid their "preparation for adulthood."

Areas to improve

• In a small number of subjects, leaders have not identified important knowledge in sufficient detail, hindering pupils’ ability to build new learning confidently.
• Some staff lack the confidence and expertise to deliver the phonics curriculum as intended, partly due to delayed training plans.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with robust procedures for recording concerns and regular training enabling staff to recognise signs of potential neglect or abuse.
