International British Online School

Overview

International British Online School meets all minimum standards for online education set by the Department for Education. The inspection found that leaders maintain high expectations, delivering a broad academic curriculum that enables pupils to achieve well and progress to universities, including Russell Group institutions.

Strengths

• There are "excellent relationships" between pupils and teachers, which help students engage well with learning and develop "highly positive attitudes."
• The curriculum is "well-designed and effective," supported by comprehensive schemes of work that account for pupils' anticipated capabilities.
• Pupils study a wide range of subjects and work towards recognised international qualifications, with many progressing to higher education.
• Parents and pupils are "highly positive" about the education and support provided, particularly praising staff communication and care.
• The online learning environment supports effective communication, with features like breakout rooms allowing private sharing of difficulties.

Areas to improve

• Leaders should strengthen their capacity to ensure that strategies for continuously self-evaluating the school against the standards are "consistently effective," as initial evidence was not sufficiently focused.

Safeguarding

The report states that arrangements for keeping children safe are "appropriate," noting effective systems for internet monitoring, filtering, and staff recruitment, alongside a secure understanding of global threats.
