John Logie Baird Primary School

Overview

The inspection found that staff work well as a team under the acting headteacher, providing a nurturing environment where children make good progress. While the primary school demonstrates good leadership and wellbeing support, the nursery requires additional support and a further inspection within one year to address specific curriculum and leadership weaknesses.

Strengths

• Staff demonstrate "positive working relationships" and provide a "nurturing environment" where children experience supportive relationships.
• Children in the nursery are "happy and settled," making their own choices and following interests "enthusiastically."
• Staff have fostered "close, trusting relationships with all families," strengthening the support provided for learning and wellbeing.
• A "more structured approach to monitoring and tracking" in primary stages helps staff identify progress effectively.
• Nursery staff worked well together to create "attractive learning spaces" following a recent decant.

Areas to improve

• The newly appointed headteacher should review senior leadership roles to strengthen "strategic leadership of both the nursery and learning centre."
• Senior leaders should improve all aspects of the nursery curriculum, working closely with staff, children, and families to suit the "unique context."
• Staff should improve approaches to observing, planning, and tracking progress in the nursery, and introduce a "more play-based approach" in early primary stages.

Safeguarding

The report states that the school is "good" at ensuring wellbeing, equality, and inclusion, and that staff provide strong wellbeing support through partnership working with families.
