Killyhommon Primary School

Overview

This monitoring inspection was conducted during industrial action involving ‘action short of strike’, during which the principal and teachers refused to co-operate with inspectors. Consequently, the report states that the ETI was ‘unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children’. The school is designated as a ‘high priority for future inspection with no further notice’.

Strengths

• The report notes that ‘satisfactory arrangements for safeguarding reflect broadly the guidance issued by the relevant Departments’.
• A group of Year 6 pupils reported that they ‘feel happy and safe in school’.
• These pupils also stated they ‘know who to contact if they have any concerns about their well-being’.

Areas to improve

• The report states that ‘no key findings can be reported’ due to the non-participation of staff.
• It highlights that the employing authority, governors, and staff must ‘plan for, and manage, issues related to the sustainability of the school provision and school budget’.
• The school must address ‘current and future needs of the children and the staff’.

Safeguarding

The report confirms that satisfactory safeguarding arrangements were evidenced and pupils felt safe, but notes that the ETI was ‘unable to evaluate fully, or discuss with staff, the outworking of the arrangements for safeguarding in the school’ due to the industrial action.
