Kings Nympton Community Primary School

Overview

Kings Nympton Community Primary School continues to be a good school, described as a "small, inclusive" environment where pupils feel "supported and well cared for." The report highlights a positive culture where "everyone looks out for each other," with pupils displaying high levels of respect, confidence, and pride in their school community.

Strengths

• Leaders prioritise reading with a carefully thought-out phonics curriculum, ensuring pupils who are "in danger of falling behind keep up."
• The mathematics curriculum uses a "systematic approach" that deepens knowledge and supports pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
• Staff work well together and value support from their partner school, with leaders being "mindful of teachers’ workload."
• Pupils enjoy a wide range of enriching experiences, including forest school and residential trips, which help them learn responsibility and safety.
• Staff have a "secure understanding" of SEND pupils’ needs, ensuring they access the same curriculum as their peers.

Areas to improve

• In geography and history, knowledge is not "sufficiently ordered towards planned end points," preventing pupils from deepening their understanding over time.
• The curriculum does not sufficiently support pupils’ understanding of diversity, leaving their knowledge of cultures beyond their own "underdeveloped."

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with a "strong culture of safeguarding" where staff know how to report concerns and leaders ensure staff receive relevant training.
