Overview

Kingsway Infants’ School continues to be a good school, described as a "happy and welcoming" environment where pupils benefit from "positive relationships with caring staff." Leaders maintain high expectations, resulting in pupils becoming "independent, confident learners" who produce high-quality work and make a positive contribution to school life.

Strengths

• The school has designed an "ambitious curriculum" that enables pupils to achieve well, with staff using assessment effectively to rectify misunderstandings quickly.
• Reading has a "high profile," with a systematic phonics programme ensuring most pupils become "fluent readers" by the time they leave.
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) successfully access the same curriculum as their peers and "achieve well across a wide range of subjects."
• Children in Reception are "well looked after" and settle quickly, with a strong emphasis on communication and language preparing them for Year 1.
• Behaviour is good, with pupils treating one another with "kindness and respect," and bullying is reported as rare.

Areas to improve

• In a small number of subjects, leaders have not sufficiently checked that the curriculum is being implemented as intended, limiting their overview of pupil achievement in those areas.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with staff receiving regular training to recognise signs of risk and leaders taking prompt action to ensure vulnerable pupils access necessary help.
