Overview

Landmarks is an independent specialist college for learners aged 16 to 25 with special educational needs and/or disabilities. The inspection confirms that Landmarks “continues to be a good provider,” offering well-planned courses across five sites that focus on life skills, vocational subjects, and employability.

Strengths

• Learners benefit from “positive relationships with staff” and grow in confidence, communication, and self-regulation.
• Practical settings, such as a working farm and public house, provide valuable opportunities for skill development.
• The ‘WayFinder’ team and ‘After College After Care’ service effectively support learners in securing employment or voluntary work.
• Tutors use clear explanations of what learners will do “now and next” to reduce anxiety and support transitions.
• Governors oversee the quality of education effectively, frequently meeting with learners and staff to test information and assist improvement.

Areas to improve

• Continue to develop the skills of learning support assistants so that all learners receive the level of support they need, particularly in identifying those requiring help quickly and challenging low-level disruption.
• Ensure that learners’ written targets are of an equally high standard so that all learners understand their targets and why they need to work towards them.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective,” noting that learners feel safe and have access to resources to seek support.
