Largoward Primary School

Overview

Education Scotland inspectors visited Largoward Primary School in November 2024, finding a school where children are “friendly, enjoy learning and are proud of their school.” The report highlights a “caring, nurturing environment” where staff effectively embed children’s rights and use digital technology to support learning. Inspectors evaluated key quality indicators as “good” and expressed confidence that the school has the capacity to continue improving without further visits.

Strengths

• Children “work well together, support one another, and demonstrate the school’s values well.”
• The headteacher and staff provide a “caring, nurturing environment” where children know they are cared for and that staff work to help them “achieve their best.”
• Staff use digital technology “effectively to support and extend children’s learning,” with pupils using tools “confidently to enhance their learning and develop their digital skills.”

Areas to improve

• Staff should “continue to develop consistently high-quality approaches to learning and teaching,” including ensuring activities are planned at the “right level of difficulty” to raise attainment.
• Staff should support children to “identify and discuss the skills they are developing through learning experiences and across their achievements.”

Safeguarding

The report states that staff ensure “the rights of the child are embedded within the life of the school,” resulting in children knowing they are cared for.
