Letham Primary School

Overview

Inspectors visited Letham Primary School and Pre-School Class in November 2023, finding a nurturing environment where children are "happy, well-mannered, articulate" and demonstrate kindness. The report highlights "respectful relationships" between pupils and staff, alongside "good progress" in literacy and numeracy, though it identifies specific areas for development in teaching consistency and assessment usage.

Strengths

• Children are described as "happy, well-mannered, articulate" and "proud of their school and nursery," showing they are "supportive to their peers."
• There are "respectful relationships between children and adults," with staff who "care for them and work to help them achieve their best."
• Pupils make "good progress" in their "literacy and numeracy learning across the establishment."
• In the pre-school class, practitioners "use observations effectively to show the progress children make in their learning."

Areas to improve

• Senior leaders and staff should "develop consistently high-quality approaches to learning and teaching," including opportunities for children to take responsibility for their own learning.
• Teachers should use assessment information to plan a "broad range of meaningful activities and experiences" set at "appropriate levels of challenge for all children."
• Senior leaders should support staff to develop a "shared understanding of children’s progress and achievement of a level across Curriculum for Excellence."

Safeguarding

The report does not explicitly detail safeguarding arrangements, though it notes that "children know that all staff care for them" within a context of "respectful relationships."
