Check the area around this school
28th of 391 primary schools in Essex we can score, 444 in total — the rest without enough published data. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Its results hold up when the comparison narrows to schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds — 9.3/10 against 2,918 of them, against 9.5/10 nationally. So this is not simply a reflection of who attends. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.
How this is worked out
| Measure | Percentile | Weight | Adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Expected standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 85.0 · 94 | 40% | 3.75 |
| Ofsted | 52 | 35% | 1.82 |
| Higher standard (RWM) 2024/25 | 25.0 · 96 | 25% | 2.40 |
Each measure is read as a position among comparable schools, so a school in the middle of the country scores 5. Full method.
Lift Westerings overview
How it's doing
In 2024/25, 85.0% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing, and maths, compared to the national median of 64%. 25.0% reached the higher standard, against a national median of 7%. Its results hold up when the comparison narrows to schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds, so they are not simply a reflection of who attends (9.3 out of 10 against similar schools, 9.5 out of 10 against all schools). Ofsted rated the school Good in July 2023.
Beyond the classroom
The school provides both a breakfast club and an after-school club for wraparound care.
Getting in
The published school roll is 417 pupils against a stated capacity of 340. These whole-school figures do not establish entry-year vacancies or the likelihood of an offer. Confirm entry-year availability and admissions criteria with the school or local authority.
Worth asking on a visit
Since the last inspection was in 2023, what specific improvements have been made to the curriculum since then? How do the breakfast and after-school clubs integrate with the main school day for families needing extended care?
What Ofsted said about Lift Westerings
Overview
Westerings Primary Academy continues to be a good school, described as a “special place” where pupils are “well prepared to move on to secondary school.” Leaders have ensured the curriculum is “broad, interesting and well planned,” resulting in pupils who “achieve well” and are “very polite and well mannered.”
Strengths
- The curriculum is carefully sequenced with “small steps in learning” that serve pupils well, particularly in early years where children get a “really strong start” in phonics and mathematics.
- Teachers are supported through coaching and training, enabling them to “deliver the curriculum well” and adapt approaches to meet diverse needs.
- Pupils behave very well, are “interested in their learning,” and benefit from a “wide range of opportunities” including clubs that actively engage disadvantaged pupils.
- Staff feel “valued and supported by leaders,” creating a harmonious environment where “what is best for pupils is at the heart of all its work.”
Areas to improve
- Provision for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is “not always sufficiently fine-tuned to their individual needs,” meaning some do not achieve as well as they could.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with robust recruitment processes and staff who are well trained to spot signs of abuse and report concerns promptly.
