Lissan Primary School

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action where staff refused to cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the ETI was “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education and safeguarding being provided for the children.” The report states that “no performance level available” for outcomes, provision, or leadership, and overall effectiveness is recorded as “Unable to assure the quality of education.”

Strengths

• Parents reported “high levels of satisfaction” with the school, noting “caring and approachable staff” and “good progress” of their children.
• Staff questionnaires were “wholly positive,” emphasising “excellent working relationships that exist at all levels.”
• Year 6 children reported that they “feel safe and happy in school” and are aware of procedures if they have safety concerns.
• A follow-up visit confirmed that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance issued by the Department of Education.”

Areas to improve

• The school must complete the “ratification of the updated safeguarding policy by the governors.”
• The school must ensure the “completion of introductory training in safeguarding for the deputy designated teacher.”
• The school is a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice” to allow full evaluation of education quality.

Safeguarding

The initial inspection found the school did not provide evidence of satisfactory safeguarding, but a follow-up visit confirmed arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance issued by the Department of Education,” subject to two planned actions.
