LLANELWEDD CHURCH IN WALES PRIMARY SCHOOL

Overview

Llanelwedd C.I.W. Primary School is described as a “caring place” where a “sense of trust pervades” and pupils enjoy a “supportive learning environment.” While many pupils are “making good progress and achieving well,” the report notes that insufficient challenge in teaching means some do not reach their full potential.

Strengths

• The school provides a “warm welcome” and staff take “very good care of [pupils’] well-being.”
• Pupils demonstrate “positive behaviour,” “collaborate very well,” and become “articulate” in older year groups.
• Teachers offer a “wide range of interesting, authentic learning experiences” that make learning exciting.
• The headteacher provides “supportive leadership” using a “very collegiate approach” and values stakeholder opinions.

Areas to improve

• Teachers must “provide sufficient challenge for pupils of all abilities” to prevent loss of interest and ensure all achieve their capabilities.
• The school needs to “increase leadership capacity by devolving responsibilities across all levels of staff,” as current leadership skills among other staff are “underdeveloped.”
• Pupils’ “Welsh oracy skills” require improvement, as they are currently “limited to basic words and phrases.”

Safeguarding

The report states that the school must “address the health and safety issue raised during the inspection.”
