Llanharan Primary School

Overview

Pupils at Llanharan Primary are described as happy, safe, and well cared for, with strong relationships across the school. While many make satisfactory progress in literacy and numeracy, their application of learning across the curriculum is inconsistent, and their writing and Welsh skills are underdeveloped. The school is in the early stages of aligning its curriculum with the Curriculum for Wales, but monitoring of teaching quality requires improvement.

Strengths

• Pupils feel safe, well cared for, and trust adults to support them appropriately.
• Staff create a “thoughtful, inclusive and supportive environment” for all pupils and families.
• Many pupils, including those with additional needs, make satisfactory progress in reading, digital skills, and mathematical concepts.
• Leaders regularly review the school’s work against its improvement priorities.

Areas to improve

• Develop consistent and rigorous monitoring approaches that fully focus on the quality of teaching and learning.
• Ensure consistency in the quality of teaching, learning, and pupil feedback.
• Improve standards of writing and pupils’ Welsh oracy skills.

Safeguarding

The report states that pupils “feel safe and well cared for, and trust that adults will always support them appropriately.”
