Check the area around this school
25th of 82 secondary schools in Lancashire we can score. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Narrow the comparison to the 883 schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds — a tougher field — and it places 4.3/10 among them, against 5.0/10 nationally. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.

What Ofsted said about Lostock Hall Academy
Overview
Lostock Hall Academy continues to be a good school where pupils are happy, feel safe, and enjoy their learning. Leaders maintain high expectations for behaviour and achievement, ensuring that all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and disadvantaged pupils, progress well through a broad and ambitious curriculum.
Strengths
- Pupils are kind and respectful, with bullying being rare and effectively managed by staff.
- The curriculum is well-designed in most subjects, with teachers using strong subject knowledge to help pupils deepen their understanding and retain learning.
- Effective systems identify and support pupils who struggle with reading, enabling less confident readers to catch up quickly with their peers.
- Pupils with SEND are accurately identified and supported to access the same ambitious curriculum as their peers, achieving well.
- A comprehensive personal development curriculum provides opportunities to discuss topical issues, British values, and receive high-quality careers advice.
Areas to improve
- In a very small number of subjects, leaders have not yet identified the essential knowledge pupils must know and remember, which hinders progress; leaders should finalise curriculum thinking so teachers know exactly what to teach and when.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with well-defined procedures, regular staff training, and strong links with external agencies to ensure vulnerable pupils receive timely help.
