Manor Drive Secondary Academy

Overview

Manor Drive Secondary Academy is a rapidly expanding academy that offers a rich curriculum and extensive enrichment opportunities, fostering responsible and well-rounded pupils. The inspection highlights an "exemplary" provision for personal development, with pupils demonstrating a strong understanding of respect for difference and citizenship. While the school has successfully managed its growth since opening in 2022, inconsistencies in curriculum clarity and behaviour management during transitions require attention to ensure high-quality education across the board.

Strengths

• Personal development is described as "exemplary," with pupils benefiting from a "wide-ranging enrichment programme" and a "strong careers strategy."
• Pupils are "safe in school," with staff acting promptly on concerns and pupils having access to trusted adults.
• The school "strongly promotes a love of reading," providing "carefully planned interventions" that offer effective support for those needing extra help.
• Leaders have successfully managed the school’s "rapid expansion," with staff sharing a "sense of purpose" and pride in their work.
• Attendance initiatives are "having a positive impact," with the school working hard to engage parents to resolve persistent absence.

Areas to improve

• Curriculum plans do not always set out "clearly enough the key knowledge and concepts," meaning pupils’ learning is "not as secure as it could be."
• Behaviour management approaches are not consistently applied during lesson transitions, leading to behaviour that is "occasionally boisterous."

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
