Manor Hill First School

Overview

Manor Hill First School continues to be a good school, described as a caring community where pupils are happy, safe, and proud to attend. Leaders have created an aspirational curriculum that builds on prior knowledge, particularly in mathematics, and staff work collaboratively to support all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

Strengths

• Pupils behave well, understand bullying, and feel supported by a nurturing ethos where adults "go above and beyond" to help children settle.
• The school prioritises reading, using high-quality texts and quickly identifying pupils needing extra help to keep up.
• Leaders provide a well-planned offer for wider development, ensuring pupils understand different faiths and fundamental British values.
• Staff are reflective, supportive of each other, and effective in securing timely support for pupils with SEND.
• The school manages rapid growth in pupil numbers well, engaging effectively with its multi-academy trust.

Areas to improve

• Ensure all staff receive the guidance needed to teach phonics effectively, as variability in delivery means some pupils do not make as much progress as they could.
• Ensure staff provide activities that support pupils to remember more across the curriculum, as some chosen activities do not always enable optimal learning and retention.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
