Margaret McMillan Nursery School

Overview

Margaret McMillan Nursery School provides a high-quality early years education where children feel safe, happy, and well-supported. The report highlights a "warm and caring" environment with strong leadership, effective safeguarding, and excellent behaviour management. While most aspects of the school’s provision meet or exceed expected standards, there are specific areas regarding teaching consistency and language development that require refinement to ensure all children achieve their full potential.

Strengths

• Safeguarding standards are met, with an "open culture" where concerns are "actively identified, acted upon and managed."
• Attendance and behaviour are rated at a "Strong standard," supported by positive reinforcement and strategies to help children regulate their emotions.
• Inclusion is effective, with leaders successfully using additional funding to remove barriers for disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs.
• Personal development is strong, with children taught to respect differences, celebrate diverse cultures, and develop resilience.
• Staff are valued, receiving regular training and support, while parents are "hugely positive" about the care provided.

Areas to improve

• Leaders must develop staff expertise to ensure teaching is "consistent across all areas of learning" so children secure knowledge over time.
• Staff need to ensure they consistently develop children’s use of "rich language" across all learning activities, as some opportunities are currently missed.

Safeguarding

The report confirms that safeguarding standards are met, noting that leaders have established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and pupils are made safer.
