Market Field School and College

Overview

Market Field School continues to be a good school, described as a "welcoming, friendly community" where adults effectively support pupils’ varying needs. The institution provides "well-considered curriculum pathways" that build independence and confidence, preparing students well for life beyond school through suitable qualifications and employability opportunities.

Strengths

• Leaders have designed curriculum pathways that "skilfully build on pupils’ accurately identified starting points and needs," with learning broken into "small, manageable steps."
• Staff support early reading well, ensuring pupils read with "growing accuracy and fluency linked to their differing needs."
• The personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) curriculum has "many strengths," helping pupils become "caring and respectful citizens."
• A "high-quality careers curriculum" and work experience provide a positive "springboard" towards further education and employment.
• Adults typically deal with behaviour and complex emotions well, prioritising well-being using "appropriate therapies."

Areas to improve

• Some curriculum areas lack clarity on what pupils should learn and when; the school must ensure "detailed knowledge explicitly outlined" so teachers are clear.
• The improved behaviour policy is not yet fully embedded; the school should ensure all staff understand effective processes to "de-escalate challenging behaviour."

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
