Marshchapel Infant School

Overview

Marshchapel Infant School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection. The school is described as being at the centre of its local community, having built "very special and strong relationships with pupils and its families." Pupils thrive due to high staff expectations, showing pride in their work and confidence in their learning.

Strengths

• Pupils enjoy a "range of extra-curricular opportunities" and develop positive character traits, resulting in excellent behaviour and strong social skills.
• The curriculum is "well-sequenced and built into carefully considered topics," ensuring pupils, including those with SEND, can access learning fully.
• Teachers prioritise mathematical knowledge, regularly checking understanding and using resources like cubes to help pupils secure new ideas.
• The personal development offer is a strength, with pupils learning about healthy lifestyles, inclusivity, and world faiths.
• Leaders have a "sharp focus on attendance," which has improved for all pupils through personalised plans.

Areas to improve

• Sometimes, learning activities do not support pupils in achieving curriculum intentions, meaning they do not acquire some important knowledge. The school should ensure activities support pupils more effectively in learning what they need to know.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
