MAYALS PRIMARY

Overview

Mayals Primary is described as a “happy, caring and supportive school” that prioritises pupil well-being and fosters “positive attitudes to learning.” While younger pupils make “sound progress,” the report notes that teaching for older pupils does not sufficiently support their potential, with leaders needing to sharpen their focus on monitoring and evaluation.

Strengths

• Pupils develop a “very good understanding of the importance of respecting others” and behave “very well,” treating each other fairly.
• The headteacher and staff “know the pupils well” and take good account of their individual needs.
• There is a “strong community feel” with close links forged between the school and parents.
• Governors “know the school well” and provide effective support using their wide range of knowledge and experience.
• Nursery to Year 2 teachers provide engaging experiences that motivate pupils and help them develop skills across the curriculum.

Areas to improve

• Improve the curriculum to ensure clear progression of pupils’ skills from Year 3 to Year 6.
• Focus monitoring, evaluation, and improvement strategies more sharply on improving pupils’ learning and progress.
• Plan learning experiences that challenge pupils appropriately in Year 3 to Year 6.

Safeguarding

The report states that pupils know “all adults at the school care for them and that they can turn to them if they face any challenges.”
