Meadow High School

Overview

Meadow High School is a special school where pupils are described as happy, kind, and safe, benefiting from "warm, caring and trusting relationships" with staff. The inspection highlights a "calm and purposeful atmosphere" with strong personal development and an outstanding sixth-form provision that prepares students exceptionally well for adulthood.

Strengths

• Pupils achieve well overall, with "exceptionally so in the sixth form," where vocational experiences and accreditations are thoroughly embedded.
• Staff deploy effective strategies to support reading, communication, and emotional regulation, helping pupils become "increasingly fluent readers" and regain composure when anxious.
• The school offers extensive enrichment opportunities, including clubs in arts, media, and dog walking, which build confidence and social development.
• Attendance has improved significantly due to new approaches, and pupils have a strong voice, evidenced by the formation of Scouts groups in response to their requests.
• Leaders carefully consider staff well-being and workload, ensuring requirements remain reasonable.

Areas to improve

• In a few subjects, curriculum content and teaching expectations are not as clearly defined as they should be, meaning pupils do not routinely achieve their full potential. The school must complete work in refining the curriculum and its implementation.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective," noting an open and positive culture that puts pupils’ interests first.
