Meadow Wood School

Overview

Meadow Wood School continues to be a good school, providing a warm and inclusive environment where pupils with physical and neurological needs flourish. The report highlights that pupils are eager to learn, grow in confidence, and benefit from a curriculum tightly linked to their individual starting points and experiences.

Strengths

• Pupils are welcomed into a "vigilant and caring adult community" where they "grow in confidence and independence."
• The curriculum is "well-considered," featuring three learning pathways that ensure pupils access a broad range of subjects adapted to their needs.
• Staff are "well trained" in communication strategies, helping pupils become increasingly independent in expressing their views and interests.
• There is strong collaboration with health and care professionals, ensuring support "tightly matches" pupils’ educational, health and care plans.
• Pastoral care is a key priority, with positive relationships between staff, pupils, and families supported by initiatives like a "siblings club."

Areas to improve

• Some staff do not always choose the most effective approaches to support learning, particularly in phonics, meaning "pupils do not learn as much or as well as they could." Leaders are addressing this through training.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with staff receiving necessary training and support to help all pupils, including those with very complex needs, and concerns being reported promptly.
