Meldrum School

Overview

Inspectors visited Meldrum School in November 2025 and found that children are “polite, articulate and keen to learn” within an “inclusive and positive learning environment.” The report highlights strong staff teamwork and effective support for wellbeing, though it notes that leadership of change and raising attainment require further development.

Strengths

• Children demonstrate pride in their school and clearly show their “school values.”
• Staff have developed “positive relationships and effective approaches that support children’s wellbeing,” creating a nurturing atmosphere.
• Staff are effective in helping children develop “communication skills,” enabling better engagement with learning and peers.
• All staff “work very well as a team” to help children recognise the skills they are gaining.

Areas to improve

• All staff and children should be fully involved in leading and monitoring change, with a strong focus on “raising of attainment in literacy and numeracy.”
• Senior leaders and staff must ensure lessons move at a “good pace, are suitably challenging, and meet the needs of all children.”
• Approaches to planning for additional support should be reviewed and streamlined to align with national guidance, including setting “clear and measurable targets.”

Safeguarding

The report states that staff are “sensitive and responsive to the wellbeing of children,” using nurturing approaches to create an inclusive environment.
