Meon Infant School

Overview

Meon Infant School provides a high-quality education where pupils are happy, safe, and develop a secure sense of independence. The report highlights a "well-designed curriculum" that is ambitious and meets pupils’ needs, supported by strong relationships between staff and children. Leaders demonstrate a clear passion for education, fostering a positive culture where pupils "know more and remember more."

Strengths

• Teachers place a "sharp focus on language and vocabulary," modelling subject-specific terms effectively to improve pupils' communication skills.
• Reading is a clear priority; staff teach phonics daily and ensure that "every child is a reader" by the end of Year 2.
• The school promotes a "culture of positive attendance," taking swift, supportive action when absence rates rise.
• Pupils benefit from "wider experiences" such as trips to museums and country parks, which deepen their learning and broaden their understanding of the world.
• Staff successfully identify pupils needing additional support, including those with special educational needs, ensuring appropriate adaptations are in place.

Areas to improve

• In some subjects within the wider curriculum, staff do not always check whether pupils have learned key knowledge, meaning they cannot effectively adapt teaching for those falling behind. The school should refine processes for checking pupil outcomes to better inform lesson planning.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
