Mosshead Primary School

Overview

Education Scotland inspectors visited Mosshead Primary School in March 2025 and found the school’s work to be “very good” in both “Learning, teaching and assessment” and “Raising attainment and achievement.” The report highlights that senior leaders and staff effectively support children to sustain high levels of attainment while ensuring equitable and inclusive approaches. Inspectors are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and will make no further visits in connection with this inspection.

Strengths

• Senior leaders and teachers effectively understand how well children make progress in literacy and numeracy, helping them “identify quickly children who would benefit from more challenge in learning.”
• Children are “enthusiastic, motivated and maintain high levels of engagement in learning,” applying their learning well across experiences to develop skills for life and work.
• Staff support children “very well to sustain high levels of attainment and close any gaps in learning,” with children recognised for their achievements and contributions to the community.
• The school ensures “equitable and inclusive approaches” which have a “very positive impact on children’s attendance, achievement, attainment and ensuring that no child misses out.”

Areas to improve

• Senior leaders and teachers should “continue to develop ways to track the quality of skills children develop, including through play” and help children plan ways to measure their successes.
