Mursley Church of England School

Overview

The report describes a school where “a sense of warmth and positivity pervades” and pupils demonstrate “exceptional” behaviour. Leaders have established an “ambitious culture” that supports high expectations for learning and conduct, resulting in pupils who are “motivated and enthusiastic learners.” The inspection highlights strong relationships between staff and pupils, with a clear focus on kindness, respect, and community contribution.

Strengths

• Pupils exhibit “exceptional” behaviour, with classrooms described as “consistently calm and purposeful” and low-level disruption absent.
• The teaching of phonics is “expert,” with effective support rapidly closing gaps for pupils falling behind in reading.
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are well supported, with teachers making “effective changes to lessons” to ensure they achieve well.
• Attendance is “excellent,” and the school provides effective support for families when pupils are absent.
• Staff are “proud to work at this school” and trust leaders to consider workload and well-being in decision-making.

Areas to improve

• The school must refine the sequencing of the curriculum in a small number of non-core subjects to ensure pupils build “coherent knowledge effectively over time.”
• Assessment in foundation subjects does not consistently check intended knowledge; the school should ensure teachers can “precisely identify pupils’ knowledge gaps” to provide accurate support.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
