Myddelton College

Overview

Myddelton College is described as a “vibrant international learning community” where pupils display “exemplary behaviour” and a strong sense of belonging. While wellbeing, care, and leadership are rated as good, standards and teaching experiences are judged as “adequate and needs improvement” due to inconsistent teaching quality and variable pupil progress.

Strengths

• Pupils are “highly motivated learners” who enjoy the innovative “learning through the outdoors” programme.
• Staff provide a “high level of care support and guidance,” creating a safe environment where diversity is celebrated.
• The headteacher offers “reflective and motivational leadership,” fostering strong teamwork and a clear school vision.
• Most younger pupils develop “particularly secure knowledge” of curriculum skills, and many make steady progress in the senior school.

Areas to improve

• Raise standards at key stage 4, particularly in mathematics and science.
• Improve the consistency of teaching and assessment across the school, as there is currently “too much variation.”
• Strengthen the effectiveness of middle leaders to ensure tasks match pupil abilities and challenge levels.

Safeguarding

The report states that the school’s arrangements for safeguarding pupils “meet requirements and give no cause for concern.”
