Olderfleet Primary School

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning teachers did not cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the ETI was “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.” The report states that “no performance level available” for outcomes, provision, or leadership, and the school is a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• A group of Year 6 pupils spoke positively about “caring and friendly working relationships” with peers and staff.
• Pupils reported that they “feel safe in school” and know what to do if they have safety concerns.
• Safeguarding arrangements were found to “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education.”

Areas to improve

• The report identifies no specific pedagogical areas for improvement as the ETI was “unable to evaluate” learning outcomes, curriculum quality, or leadership effectiveness due to non-cooperation.
• Appendix A notes “limited secure access to the playground areas,” requiring risk assessments and appropriate risk reduction measures.
• The appendix highlights a classroom “without a clear vision pane” and “limited wheelchair/disability access in parts of the site.”

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” though the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
