Ormiston Kensington Queensmill Academy

Overview

The report describes a school where pupils are “greeted warmly” and feel safe, supported by staff who work closely with families to understand individual motivations. Leaders have designed a personalised curriculum that helps pupils achieve their goals, with a strong focus on communication, language, and preparing students for adult life through community involvement.

Strengths

• Pupils study a “broad range of subjects” with content carefully chosen to develop communication, language, and numeracy skills.
• Teachers possess “strong subject knowledge” and use engaging activities, such as props for story time, to bring learning to life.
• There is a “well-sequenced programme” to develop reading and communication skills from early years through to sixth form.
• The school environment is “calm and orderly,” with staff using emotional regulation support plans to help pupils manage distress.
• Sixth-form students benefit from a “well-structured programme of preparation for adulthood,” including community outings and career guidance.

Areas to improve

• In some subjects, the curriculum lacks a “clear sequential structure,” leading to gaps in pupils’ knowledge over time.
• Links between EHC plan targets and personal learning plans sometimes “lack clarity,” making it difficult to determine if pupils have securely met targets.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
