Oxhill Nursery School

Overview

Oxhill Nursery School is described as a "wonderful place" where children are happy and staff are "kind and caring." The report highlights "remarkable progress" since the previous inspection, noting that the school has improved the curriculum and established a secure distributed leadership system.

Strengths

• Staff use their knowledge of children to make learning "meaningful and fun," promoting independence from the earliest days.
• The curriculum is well-planned, with clear progression in areas such as communication, language, and mathematics.
• Children’s personal, social and emotional development is central, resulting in "highly positive behaviours" and strong peer interactions.
• The environment is used effectively, including extensive outdoor play areas and a sensory classroom to support individual needs.
• Leaders and governors work collaboratively to introduce new practices, with governors being both "supportive and challenging."

Areas to improve

• The school must introduce effective systems to systematically check the impact of improvements on provision, as current methods do not provide a "precise view" of effectiveness.
• The curriculum should provide more meaningful experiences for children to appreciate the diversity of British society, as they currently lack sufficient opportunities to learn about communities different from their own.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
