Parayhouse School

Overview

Parayhouse School continues to be a good school, providing a supportive environment where pupils are "keen to come to school every day." The institution successfully adapts its broad curriculum to meet the specific needs of pupils with speech, language, and communication difficulties, preparing them well for post-16 provisions.

Strengths

• Pupils benefit from "kind and caring adults" who help develop their communication, social skills, and independence.
• Staff and therapists work "extremely closely together" to assess starting points and make appropriate adaptations to teaching.
• The curriculum includes vocational courses focusing on "functional knowledge and real-life experiences," such as employment and community engagement.
• High expectations for behaviour create a "calm, purposeful school environment," with staff adept at addressing the root causes of misbehaviour.
• Leaders prioritise staff well-being, ensuring work demands are not onerous and providing opportunities for professional development.

Areas to improve

• The school must refine and embed recent curriculum improvements in a few subjects where implementation is not yet fully established, as this results in pupils not achieving as highly as they could.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
