Overview

Strengths

• Pupils are “friendly and respectful,” feeling safe and knowing who to approach with worries.
• The curriculum is “ambitious,” with teachers who are “knowledgeable in the subjects they teach” and carefully select resources to meet diverse learning needs.
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are “well supported to achieve their personal best” through quick identification of needs and adapted lessons.
• Sixth-form students benefit from an “enrichment programme and leadership opportunities,” acting as role models for younger peers.
• The careers programme provides effective advice, including work experience and employer visits, ensuring pupils are “prepared well for their next steps.”

Areas to improve

• Leaders should ensure teachers “systematically check pupils’ understanding” before moving on, as errors and misconceptions can otherwise persist.
• Leaders should provide more opportunities for pupils to “read more widely” for pleasure, as currently not enough students are reading for enjoyment.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with a “culture of vigilance” maintained through appropriate staff checks, regular training, and quick reporting of concerns.
