Penygelli C P School

Overview

Penygelli Primary School provides a "warm, caring environment" where pupils feel safe and maintain strong relationships with staff. The interim leadership team has successfully re-established a positive culture and vision for wellbeing, fostering a sense of pride within the school and the wider community. However, while many pupils make suitable progress in oracy and creative skills, development in writing and numeracy is less effective, and past evaluation processes have not sufficiently secured improvements in teaching and learning.

Strengths

• Pupils exhibit "excellent" behaviour and treat one another and adults with respect.
• The interim leadership team has created a "caring, thoughtful, happy and secure environment" and united staff during a challenging period.
• There is a strong partnership with parents, who value the school’s role in developing their children’s "enthusiasm for learning."
• Most pupils, including those with additional learning needs, develop their oracy, reading, physical, and creative skills well.

Areas to improve

• Further develop the curriculum to support the progressive development of pupils’ writing and numeracy skills.
• Improve aspects of teaching and learning experiences identified as being less effective.
• Sharpen self-evaluation and school improvement processes to focus closely on bringing about improvements to teaching and learning.

Safeguarding

The report states that pupils "feel safe and well cared for by their teachers," reflecting a secure environment where staff maintain strong working relationships with pupils.
