PETER LEA PRIMARY SCHOOL

Overview

Peter Lea Primary School is described as an “inclusive and welcoming community” where staff encourage pupils to challenge themselves. Most pupils make good progress, developing literacy, numeracy, and Welsh language skills with enthusiasm, while leaders provide strong, purposeful leadership.

Strengths

• Pupils develop a “positive attitude to their work” and approach tasks with a “sense of ambition.”
• Staff provide “good support for vulnerable pupils” and monitor progress “very carefully.”
• The school offers rich learning experiences, including first-hand opportunities and effective use of the outdoor environment.
• Leaders “evaluate the school’s strengths and areas for development accurately” and involve stakeholders in improvement plans.
• Pupils have many opportunities to participate in school life, developing an understanding of their local area and the wider world.

Areas to improve

• Ensure teachers’ planning builds literacy and numeracy skills “systematically as they move through the school.”
• Ensure agreed strategies to manage pupils’ behaviour “operate effectively in all classes.”
• Improve pupils’ spelling, punctuation, and handwriting skills, as too many make “careless errors.”

Safeguarding

The report states that the school’s arrangements for safeguarding pupils “meet requirements and give no cause for concern.”
