Overview: Preston Grange Primary School is a good school where every pupil is valued and feels safe and happy. The school sets high standards for behaviour and achieves them, with pupils behaving well in lessons and around the school.

Strengths:

• The school is a warm and welcoming place to attend, with high standards for behaviour that are consistently met.
• Pupils know the school's values well and are celebrated for demonstrating them in assemblies.
• The school prioritises reading, with a carefully sequenced reading curriculum and accurate assessment of pupils' reading knowledge.
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are supported to access the curriculum and are included in all aspects of school life.
• The school has a stimulating environment in the early years, with carefully selected activities supporting children's formal learning.

Areas to improve:

• The consistent use of assessment strategies for recall and retrieval is being developed in the foundation curriculum, but is not used well enough to check that pupils have remembered prior knowledge.
• In mathematics and English, pupils do not remember as much of their learning as they do in other subjects, due to the inconsistent use of 'SHINE' tasks.
