Priory Park Community School

Overview

Pupils thrive at this nurturing school, developing a strong sense of belonging and flourishing despite previous negative educational experiences. The report highlights that staff know pupils very well, fostering positive relationships that make students feel "happy, valued and safe." Consequently, pupils enjoy their learning, take pride in their qualifications, and are well supported to re-engage with education.

Strengths

• Staff teach knowledge in a "logical order that builds over time," helping pupils retain essential information and deepen their understanding through subject-specific language.
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities are supported well, with staff making "thoughtful adaptations" and working with external agencies to assist learning.
• Personal development is outstanding, with pupils eagerly participating in high-quality activities like car mechanics workshops and the Duke of Edinburgh programme.
• The school provides a "well-considered careers curriculum" and 'transition mentors' to help Year 11 pupils prepare for college or employment.
• Staff feel "well supported and valued," and the school engages positively with the community and parents.

Areas to improve

• The school should "tighten the checks that are made on pupils’ learning" because current assessments are sometimes too broad, meaning activities are not precisely aimed at what pupils need to improve.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
