Queen's Drive Infant School

Overview

Pupils enjoy attending this “welcoming school” where they demonstrate “inquiring minds” and take pride in their high-quality work. The inspection confirms that staff have “high expectations” and use “well-established and consistent teaching methods” to help pupils learn the curriculum successfully. Leaders and governors are focused on continual improvement, with parents reporting positive views on the support provided.

Strengths

• Staff make tasks “engaging and fun,” fostering an environment where pupils are “eager to learn.”
• Teachers possess “strong subject knowledge” and check understanding accurately, enabling effective knowledge transfer.
• The school identifies pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) “effectively,” ensuring many achieve well across the curriculum.
• Pupils are prepared well for life in modern Britain, learning about “different religions and cultures” with mutual respect.
• Leaders show consideration for staff workload and well-being, contributing to a positive staff culture.

Areas to improve

• In a few subjects, the teaching of subject-specific vocabulary is not sufficiently focused on disciplinary knowledge, meaning some pupils lack the necessary terms to communicate their understanding effectively. The school should identify key vocabulary for each subject and ensure teachers incorporate it into their teaching.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
