Ramsey Manor Lower School

Overview

Pupils, staff, and parents are “extremely proud” of this school, which provides a “happy, nurturing place” for children. The report highlights “impeccable” behaviour and outstanding personal development, supported by a “well-sequenced curriculum” and high expectations from staff.

Strengths

• Pupils demonstrate “consistently positive attitudes to their learning” and are “kind to one another” and respectful.
• The curriculum is “well-sequenced,” with lessons that provide regular opportunities to build on previous learning and address misconceptions.
• Reading is given priority, with staff trained to teach early reading well and books “carefully matched to the sounds that they know.”
• Personal, social, health and economic education is “very well considered,” teaching pupils about democracy, fairness, and safety.
• Leaders and governors are “ambitious and committed,” with accurate understanding of school effectiveness through appropriate monitoring processes.

Areas to improve

• In the early years, adults must better “extend children’s sentence structure” and model vocabulary to ensure children do not miss opportunities to practise new language.
• Staff need to check what pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities know and understand “sharply enough” in reading to prevent gaps in learning.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
