Rhos Street CP School

Overview

This is a high achieving school where strong, sustained leadership upheld exemplary standards during the recent move to new premises. Leaders, teachers and governors work together extremely well, underpinned by a cohesive link between monitoring, self-evaluation and improvement planning. Pupils achieve extremely well, particularly in English and mathematics, while enjoying their learning in well-resourced environments.

Strengths

• Pupils achieve extremely well in English, literacy across the curriculum and mathematics, with many leaving with skills above those expected for their age.
• Strong systems for care, support and guidance ensure all pupils behave well, feel safe and make very good progress.
• The headteacher’s leadership is described as strong, inspiring and energetic, with a clear vision embraced enthusiastically by staff and governors.
• There is a highly effective culture of continuous self-evaluation, using a ‘strategic golden thread system’ to ensure robust accountability.
• Pupils develop excellent oracy skills, becoming confident and eloquent presenters who connect effectively with their audience.

Areas to improve

• Develop opportunities for pupils to make choices and decisions about what and how they learn, as they do not decide this often enough.
• Improve the provision for ICT, which has been limited by the move to new premises and adaptation of equipment.

Safeguarding

The school’s arrangements for safeguarding pupils meet requirements and give no cause for concern.
