Ridgewood Community High School

Overview

Ridgewood Community High School continues to be a good school, providing an ambitious curriculum that prepares pupils for adulthood. Pupils enjoy school, benefit from strong relationships with staff, and are supported to become independent through practical life skills and community engagement.

Strengths

• Pupils enjoy school and have "strong and positive relationships" with staff who help them reach future goals.
• The curriculum is "ambitious for all pupils," with a sharp focus on reading that has helped pupils become "fluent readers."
• Staff use assessment information and EHC plans effectively to shape teaching and ensure pupils with SEND "move forward in their learning."
• Attendance has improved due to partnerships with parents and staff being "adept at meeting pupils’ health and care needs."
• There is an "extensive and enhanced offer" for personal development, including clubs, trips, and work experience.

Areas to improve

• In a small number of subjects, the curriculum has not been carefully thought through, meaning teachers lack the information needed to help pupils learn effectively.
• The school should ensure all subjects are well designed so pupils can acquire the necessary knowledge.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
