Rivermead School

Overview

Rivermead School continues to be a good school, where dedicated staff pay "meticulous attention to meeting each individual’s needs." The curriculum is carefully designed with "ambitious learning pathways" that build knowledge logically, preparing pupils for adulthood through extensive careers programmes and community skills.

Strengths

• Staff identify precise support needs immediately, with most pupils in the ‘Triple R’ provision successfully returning to mainstream schools or college.
• The curriculum revisits common ideas to help pupils remember learning well, while sixth-form students achieve "ambitious qualifications" for work or further education.
• Personal development is "exemplary," with pupils learning independence, safety, and inclusivity through guest speakers and community visits.
• Pupils behave very well due to clear, consistently applied rules and nurturing relationships, taking pride in their successes through rewards like ‘SUPERstar’ badges.

Areas to improve

• Support for pupils at earlier stages of reading is not yet embedded across the whole school, potentially hindering their ability to learn the curriculum.
• The school must implement plans to provide specific phonics support for pupils who need it to become confident and fluent readers.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
