Overview

This Sustaining Improvement Inspection was conducted in March 2018 following a previous evaluation of the school as “good”. Due to industrial action involving “non-co-operation” by teaching staff, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was unable to evaluate “the quality of learning and teaching within the classrooms”. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children”.

Strengths

• The school used data to identify development areas, with teachers developing planning focused on “integrating numeracy across the curriculum”.
• Children reported they “enjoy the variety of numeracy opportunities they have across the curriculum, particularly in science”.
• A review of leadership roles has been undertaken, with staff engaging in “regular monitoring and evaluation of their curricular area of responsibility”.

Areas to improve

• The report states that “a consistency of approach, opportunity to enhance the collegial sharing of good practice and reporting to governors should be further developed”.
• The school must “expedites the current review of policies to reflect DE requirements” regarding safeguarding.

Safeguarding

The report notes that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education” and that children feel “happy and safe”, though policy reviews must be expedited.
