Sandfields Primary School

Overview

Sandfields Primary School fosters a "warm, friendly, and inclusive environment" where pupils feel safe and valued, resulting in very good behaviour and high levels of happiness. While the school effectively supports emotional well-being and is developing a creative curriculum, the report identifies significant shortcomings in teaching expectations, feedback quality, and the pace of skill development in writing and digital literacy.

Strengths

• Pupils are "happy and enjoy coming to school," feeling they are "looked after extremely well."
• The provision for supporting "emotional and social challenges" is a distinct strength, helping pupils engage successfully.
• Staff create a "creative curriculum" that provides "beneficial life experiences" and deepens understanding of the locality.
• Many pupils develop "clear speaking skills" and possess a "sound understanding of number."
• The headteacher, staff, and governors "work together effectively."

Areas to improve

• Teachers’ expectations of what pupils can achieve are "too low, particularly for more able pupils," and "over-direction from adults" hinders independent learning.
• Written feedback "does not help pupils to improve their work," and there are limited opportunities for pupils to reflect on their learning.
• Pupils’ ability to write at length is "underdeveloped," and the pace of development in their digital skills is "slow."

Safeguarding

The report states that pupils feel they are "kept safe" and that the school’s provision supports their well-being effectively.
